Harry Hobbs: Certified Alexander Technique Teacher
A Florida native, Harry has lived in Boston since 2006. Moving here to attend Boston University's School of Theatre, he first learned about the Alexander Technique there and realized that this work was special. After graduating and working as an actor, the desire to understand and embody the Alexander Technique compelled him to train and become a teacher. In 2014 he completed his 1600-hour, 3-year certification at The Alexander Technique Center at Cambridge under director and senior teacher Tommy Thompson.
He has studied extensively with Betsy Polatin and completed her 3-year training course, The Actor’s Secret, which trains Alexander Technique teachers to incorporate the principles of Somatic Experiencing and Breathing Coordination to help performers remove blocks to creativity. He has also done post-graduate work with David Gorman, founder of Learning Methods and anatomy expert. Harry has assisted Tommy in teacher training, presented workshops for his training course, and taught for Debi Adams’ training course at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
He has presented workshops in Ireland and Germany for Alexander Technique International and the International Alexander Technique Congress as well as Freedom to Act in New York City.
Harry is on faculty at Boston University’s School of Theatre, School of Music, and Opera Institute where he teaches the Alexander Technique to undergraduates, graduate students, and post-graduate students.
